It has to be one of the most amazing and well done films I have ever seen in my life. I think I'm going to watch it again today

  2. Is this movie based on EL Doctorow's book by the same title??

I saw it two weeks ago, its now one of my favorite movies. Great dialogue, likable characters, plus having lived in such an environment helped me relate

My favourite part of the movie is also the most fucked up: when Lil Ze makes Steak and Fries pick between two Runts, and kill the one he picks. The scene showed that under that seemingly tough exterior, they are still children inside.

Knockout Ned was also badass -- gunning down children like nothing.

  7. I just got to see the movie latelly too and really liked.. There is a new movie from the same director I belive just about to be released it is called Carandiru and I hear it is great!

The first time I saw Cidade de Deus was in Rio de Janeiro. There were of course no subtitles...so I missed much of the dialogue.
The favelas (ghettos) of Rio are really fucked up. But the nicer parts of Rio, like Ipanema, Copacabbana, and Leblon are really nice.

    Rio is worth a visit.

I saw it a couple of years ago as extra credit for a class I was taking. It's dammned good. Quite violent but this is apparently what goes on in the favelas. And we think our ghettos are bad. :(

This wasn't a Tarantino movie, but it was awesome! I asked my Brazilian cousin about the accuracy of it and she said it is really authentic.
