So...I just started training Jiu-Jitsu...I've been training full contact Karate for years and years but decided to try jiu-jitsu after taking a new job and moving across to the other side of the city.

It's a shit ton of fun...but right now I can't feel my left shoulder because my partner in class was a little too excited about learning how to do a kimura properly (in hindsight I shouldn't have told him what he was doing wrong hehe).

Anyway...hopefully I'll have cool stories to share in the near future.

If my old body doesn't break any time soon I intend to stick with it for a while. :)

I started in August and I can easily say it was one of the best decisions I've made.

Attention new bjjers: if i have one more of you guys come in to ask me about teh d34dly rubber guard im gonna kick your ass into next week. Stick with the basics.

In your first lessons and probably your first year learn some basic submissions, but nearly all of your effort should go into developing sweeps, and having a strong positional game, this will IMMEASURABLY help your game further down the line. Once you found the guard passes you like, and the way you like to hold positions such as side control, mount, north south and the back you can develop your game a lot more than having a favorite position.

Finally, learn the basics before you try any fancy stuff, basic shit works and its pretty much all i use in my game, and most of it is the stuff that will work no gi as well.
