Right now, I'm 6'1 and 190 lbs. I hope to be down to 160 by September 1st, and I think losing 1.5 lbs a week should be pretty doable. I used fitday.com to get started, so for now my diet consists of:

Soon I plan to start doing some light bicycling or jogging, and I just recently bought a weight bench and I'm researching what exercises I should be doing because I've never really worked out before. With eating less than 1400 calories a day and cardio/light weigtlifting a few times a week my goal should be pretty attainable, right?

Eat a little more please...I'd say 1500-1800 with more protein.

Cardio + Weights, like you said, is a good next step. Get to it!

Just curious, why recommend more calories? Isn't the point to eat less so your body has to dip into your fat reserves more? Adding a chicken breast or 2 during the day should make a little better I guess.

too much of a caloric deficit will put your body into starvation mode and making losing weight harder. 6'1 160 is crazy skinny, too. put some muscle on first.

Should I slowly work down to where I'm at now with the calories or just keep it at 1500-1800 the whole time?

just like every other diet that people post on here, you have no fat sources. More total calories, more fats, more protein, more vegetables, and whatever is left over after that can be starchy carbs. read the nutrition sticky.

6'1 190 sounds alright on paper, but I'm mostly fat and not much muscle. Going down to 160 might be a little much though.

It does not. Maybe what you mean to say is that muscle takes the place of fat...

i would say eat clean around your maintenance calorie level and start hitting the weights to try to put on some muscle.

    Shoot for 1900 cals atleast.

You will not build a drop of muscle eating 1200 calories a day either.

Follow Chris3G's advice and hit the weights hard. Since you have just started there'll be substantial body recomposition and a nice amount of noob gains so that when you do lose fat, you won't be so skinny-fat.
    :noes:

Right now, at 6'1 and 190lbs, i don't think you need to worry about dropping fat just yet.

I wish I was still dropping 1.5 lbs a week. For the first 5 weeks of my newish diet i dropped 2lbs a week. Went from 194 to 183, now I haven't lost a pound in two weeks.

I think he should eat 2500 clean calories a day and train.

I know for certain when i've maintained weight, and trained, i have become noticeably leaner.
