I just picked up a d80 today for my trip to Oahu in a few weeks.

    I have a 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 and a 55-200 f/4-5.6 (I know, slow glass)

I was wondering if I should pick up anything else to bring to hawaii or would these lenses suffice?

    thanks.

Get a circular polarizer. It's mandatory when photographing Hawaii.

you might want to look into a wide zoom. something around 10-20, 12-24, good for landscape. also, are you taking a laptop? if not i would suggest something like the nikon coolwalker to download your pictures onto.

    koo...

I have that also but it seemed like so many people made it a big deal that the Nikon program wasn't free.

    CS2 > Nikon capture NX?

I think it's a good for when you want to convert your RAW images. Other than that, CS2 is a $600 tool that we take for granted because we get it for "free" :mamoru:

you can get into a decent third party lens for around $500. unfortunately we nikon folk do not have an equivalent lens to the amazing canon 10-22 at the same price point. the nikon 12-24 breaks the back at over $1K.

normally i think rockwell is full of a lot of hot air but this really is a decent digital widezoom shoot out. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/digital-wide-zooms/comparison.htm

also i think i will be picking up a tokina 10-17 when it becomes available more widely this month. for your timeline however i doubt you can find one.

Everything there is great but the Coolwalker. Buy MORE memory cards. Or of course the laptop.

for me it was also too short and my optech has quick releases that let me get it out of the way when working on a tripod.

Yeah, I tossed my Nikon straps for Domke Grippers. Doesn't really stop the chafing, but the rubber sewn into the strap definitely keeps it on my shoulder. Neoprene straps are nice and comfy, but they don't like to stay on my shoulder, which is potential danger of camera falling. And, no, I'm not gonna stop carrying it on my shoulder :wiggle:

they should be just fine during the day time if you use a polarizer. just go buy a nice 77mm and get step down rings for your lenses.
