Apparently the Tornado sounds like a blowdryer, but I'm gonna OC the hell out of my AMD, so I figured WTH. I'll get back with a review on Wednesday when I get the package.

My friend had that heatsink. He cracked his core, so be very careful when installing and moving it. He's also got an air siren/120mm and I can't stand it. Seriously, I can hear him start up his computer half way across the city.

Well not really, but its loud. Thank God he didn't have it at the last LAN.

    I have one of these:

    :naughty:

My p4 is running at 3.2 up from 2.4. I can sleep in the same room easy with my case open. I'm using a panaflo fan, but I would suggest this 120mm: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/fanal12025b.html
there are a lot of quiet fans that should be able to cool your heatsink that won't make a ton of noise. Get some arctic silver too.

I woulda picked up the SP fo sho, but it won't fit my mobo
Gonna give the Tornado a try, and if its too much then I'll just have to pick up a different fan or a rherostat.

Also gonna try to adapt my stock AMD HSU to my ATI 9600Pro...I heard it can be done

I used to have one of those Delta fans. Extremely too loud.

If you do get the rheostat be sure it's not a cheap low wattage one. I've heared a few horror stories of high powered tornados and deltas blwoing out the channels on those.

I've got a friend with that same set up. That fan is loud as hell, but he's not worried about the noise.
Another friend got the same one have the first suggested it, but then got a smaller fan to less noise but still damn good cooling.

    @lowfat
The Volcano 12 is 48db at 5500 RPM, which is pretty loud. I run it at around 5000RPM which isn't too bad and still cool enough for my needs.
And the choice of front or rear manual control is so much nicer since I use the manual control and mod mounted it to a blank 5.25" face plate.

i have the slk-947U with the vantec tornado. you have to be very careful when mounting it....and be prepared to have to redo it, because chances are it will get shitty temps at first

ALright....got it and installed it today. Just to recap, "it" is a Thermaltake slk-900A HSU, with a 92mm Tornado fan, and a little tube of AS5.

WOW!! :eek3: This thing blows!! First of all, the fan is loud, but not like UNBEARABLY loud. Sounds like there is in fact, a blowdryer, inside my case. Maybe I'll get sick of it later on and buy a rheo, but for now, its no big deal.

Also, I was very glad to see how good the lapping job on the SLK was...smooth and shiny as a mofo! I think the temps are proof of that....BEHOLD!!

TEMPS: These are before and after temps on an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ T-bred B (~2.0Ghz) overclocked to 2.4Ghz @ 1.7 v-core.

    Before: 38-40c IDLE, 45-52c LOAD

NOW: 30-33c IDLE, 40-43c LOAD!!! BOOYEAH!!

All in all, this is a badass combo, if you can take the noise. I still have to shut the comp. off and let the AS5 cool to room temps a couple times, as per the instruction, to break it in, so I expect the temps to drop a few more degrees over the next couple days.

Anyways, I wish I didn't have a shitty 350W PSU, so I could push up the voltage some more, and see just how hot I can get this thing. That will be my next purchase....a new PSU.

    Thermaltake SLK-900A + Vantec Tornado 92mm + AS5 = teh WIN :bigthumb: !!!11

Thermalright just put out a 120mm version of that heatsink. It's a monster.
