God damn, $1600 for a lens. There's so much other things I could have bought... a new laptop, a Omega, invested it. Here I am taking pictures instead. And it's a god damn niche lens, not like the 17-55 or anything. Wow, just amazes me what it's come to. Start of this year I was using a P & S and now this....

Anyone else ever wonder... why do I spend so much on it? I mean for me I'll probably never make money off of this, just a fucking expensive hobby.

if it makes you feel any better I use my 70-200 F4 all the time, I don't really see how it's a niche lens :o

I guess it's niche to me in it's only got a few applications which I'll want to use it such as sports, ceremonies, maybe concerts if I'm far away.

I can't use it as just a travel lens unless I know I'll be needing it.

About 70% of my shots are with this lens. It's all subjective how important this lens is based upon your shooting subjects.

if you can afford it and feel you'd benefit from it even if you don't get any money in return, it has paid for itself. If you buy it and keep feeling like you could have purchased something better fit for that money, then I suggest returning/selling it.

haha, because when they had the triple rebate system I didn't even have a camera then.

and yeah, it's the Nikon one so it has VR, not IS

Also, I got it from Costco. Paid more then I should, but the return policy can't be beat

you mean people take pictures with nikons...shit i could have sworn they were simply camera shaped paper weights.

    lol i kidd...

but seriously, i have an old nikon FT3 that i use as a paper weight now...awesome camera, till it got stuck on bulb and dropping it on the floor no longer fixed it.

im sure you 70-200 will pay for itself. i have yet to get any money out of my photography, but it seems like my 70-200 is perminantly attached to my camera. never thought i would use it so much...and its heavy enough to kill a man with! dual purpose lens ftw..
