Could have gotten a 10/22 and a bunch of mags for that price, and then you'd have 2 guns to shoot.

Always nice to have a backup or one for a friend when you go to the range.

But you also don't get cheap practice with your defense rifle. Its not always about having the most guns.

Between my brother and I, we have 4 and they run great.

Those are not Ciener mags, that's why they aren't $59.

Sure, you could buy a 10/22 for $179, then you spend $1k dressing it up because stock is never good enough.

+1 on the practicing with your fighting gun

They aren't better, they are half the price. I have 18 of them, my brother has 7, we have 3 Ciener AR kits, one in a Bushmaster, one in an Oly, and one in a Double Star, all three with Kuehl uppers on them, and they work 100%, but so do Ciener mags. I tried 3 of mine in a Colt M16 with a Ciener and they would only feed 3 or 4 at a time. The bolt was dragging on them and I wasn't going to mess with them cuz they work in my guns. Most folks have no issues, but due to tolerance differences in both the mags and the Ciener kits, some do require some tweeking.

    1. this isnt the revolutionary war. i'd like to see the fight he gets into with an ar
    2. hes not using the same ammo to practice with so it changes a lot
    3. spending 1k to "dress up" a 10/22? come on

    1. You never know. I didn't say "war gun". Defending your house is fighting, but I didn't want to relegate it to a "defense" gun.
    2. Muscle memory makes a world of difference. Small variances in how far away you're shooting and recoil aren't a big issue compared to stance, sight picture, manipulation of the safety, trigger, mag release, etc.
    3. You've never been to rimfirecentral.com, have you? Both of my kids' 10/22's cost me over $500 and I paid wholesale for the guns/parts and built them myself. There are barrels in the $2-300 range for 10/22's. There are $300 trigger groups for 10/22's. There are $700 stocks for 10/22's.

You don't have guns you considerself defense weapons? Or do you just not consider a long gun someone someone wouldn't use for self defense?

A shooter can really hone their accuracy by practicing trigger pull and sight alignment, no matter what the recoil is. This is the reason why dry firing is effective. With .22's the user gets to see some holes in the paper, gets to work the magazine, clear feed problems, etc. It may not be something you're interested but .22 conversions for practice have been around for a long time for good reason.
