Starting off, I am 5'9", about 160. Very average.

I am not looking to get JACKED, but lean and build muscle.

I have never lifted weights in my life, but have been for about 3 weeks and I love the feeling.

I haven't really been targeting a certain area...but was wondering the most effective way to workout. I usually start on the flat bench or incline and do 4 sets of 12, and if I have to go down in weight on the last 2 i do.

I have been doing shoulder fly's with dumbells, curls with barbells and the pulldown on the pulley machine for triceps. I also mix in obliques and other shoulder excersises. I end with doing treadmill or playing 2vs2 bball to get a good sweat in. It was stupid of me not to take a picture before , but I don't eat fast food or eat too late, so I know I haven't lost or gained weight since I started. The first thing I notice is lovehandles down slightly, but my triceps are noticably harder when flexing.

I just want to know the best, most effective way to work out. I am not looking to become SWOLL, but to get lean and healthy. My diet is very steady with lots of chicken and veggies, with steak sometimes and bagels for breakfast with eggs.

Any input for a noobie will be greatly appreciated.

What are your goals? Set some well defined daily, weekly and monthly goals. Be as specific as you can.

    and read the sticky's btw.

i think most people try not to eat late, but i usually have my second shake of the day before bed. i find i wake up less sore if i have protein in my body to help repair overnight, this is my personal experience only though.

best thing you can do is eat clean (ie make your own food, include a healthy mix of carbs and protein with some fats) definetely stay away from processed foods and make sure you keep a steady routine for working out. looking at what your currently working out, theres plenty of muscle groups your missing out, so try and get a healthy balance going to work out all muscle groups and give time for them to repair before their next workout. eg benching, curls and pulldowns doesnt cover your whole body.

remember carbs are your friend for energy if you keep up the exercising, but your enemy if you eat to much of them and get lazy with your workouts.

same here i usually wake up to piss in the night and keep a cup with a scoop of whey and spoon for easy mixing. It helps me go back to sleep with something in my stomach too.

Ya I don't know why everyone always prefaces their introduction with that shit. As if they might get the wrong advice and become Arnold sized by accident or something.

  20. Then you need to be very careful man. That stuff can just creep up on you out of no where. You can go to bed at 5'10 170lbs 10% and just wake up 50lbs heavier without putting on any body fat.
