I know consoles and laptops are notorious for getting fucked up over here, but I've been thinking of getting a ps3. I'm just wondering if it will make it the rest of the deployment (~9 months) or if I'd just be buying a soon-to-be broken ps3.

    thanks for any info

Several guys in my Platoon have bought XBox, laptops, PSPs, etc. The worst thing is the CD/DVD drives. No matter how careful you are, moondust will get all up in it and eventually fuck it up. But they sell cans of compressed air in the PX for just that problem.

If I was permanently stationed at something like a JSS or COP there would be no way I'd be able to keep a functioning laptop. But my stuff stays relatively clean in my CHU. And for the times when it stops working I just use the blast of canned air.

I wouldn't recommend buying a PS3. From what I've heard, the way to go is with a regular Xbox or PS2. Apparently there's a chip you can get there to mod those systems so you can just download the games onto it rather than having to deal with and keep track of all those individual games.
