Just wondering, how many men and women are enlisted in the U.S. Military? What about the Russian and Chinese militaries?

At the risk of shitting on your thread...

this isn't a question for debate. its asking for facts and figures...something you could just as easily google...

and there are a few threads like this in On Topic...

what in this question can there be a point/counterpoint debate about?

    Uh oh, rule nazi!! :p

We could debate the fact of whether or not our military is better than China's or Russia's.

Don't know about other militaries, but US is a little over 1.4 million. Here, hope I'm not doing your homework for you: http://web1.whs.osd.mil/mmid/M05/hst0406.pdf

I needed my facts straight. It's good ammunition for all the naysayers who claim we dont have the personnel to fight the war in Iraq, or that we dont have the personnel to fight multiple wars concurrently.

Gotta love Canada's less than 100k total force with Reg + Reserve.

I did not mean to insinuate that we are, or will be, fighting multiple, concurrent wars. However, many people who are against the US being in Iraq claim that we are spreading ourselves too thin, that if we send more troops to Iraq we would be unable to defend our homeland. The numbers also show that there is no need for a draft...for those who are convinced that one is coming. Anyways, all that is for another thread. :killbill:

we are overstreched, there's really no debate about that. we can cover our obligations, but it means calling up reservists to serve on active duty, as well as upping the operations tempo of our battle forces. troops are going on longer deployments, more often than ever before. the military is adapting to the new conditions, but it's placing an undue strain on many military members.

personally, when i complete training, i can expect to be deployed nearly 6 months out of every year - more if there's a more serious conflict.

Probably around a million active and another few hundred thousand in reserve. But, you know they're never going to really let out the true numbers of the American military, we can only guess at it .

China has a 3 million man army. Russia probably has at least a million.

    Let's put it this way...

Its large enough to kick any country's ass that challenges us or decides to crash a freaking plane into our skyscrapers.
