GUN Just how accurate is a $60 Ruger Mini-14 barrel?

  2. Barrel blanks that are retail priced at $60 (at least when the article was written) from Ruger shoot well under 1 MOA @ 200 yards. With some loads, they were hovering around .5 MOA.

    Can't watch cause I'm at work...

    Did they cut them down/reprofile them? What weight/contour were they?

    I've heard several people attribute the mini-14's accuracy woes to a really crappily designed barrel. Supposedly too thin of a barrel, at too long a length which causes really strange harmonic issues.
     
  4. It's just a pdf. They left them at their original blank diameter of .980" The thinness of the Mini-14 barrel may well contribute to their inaccuracy.
