We had an open house yesterday between 10:30 and 2pm. Wife and I went to bed around 9:30pm. Around 10 just as we were dozing off, my wife yelled "someone is trying to get in the front door". I immediately grabbed my nightstand gun and ran towards the door, as the dog started barking. As I opened the door, and made my way outside, whoever it was was already gone. Made a sweep around the house and found no one. Didn't think at the time (probably a stupid thought) to call the police.

Never really think it's going to happen until it happens. But the officer was very cool about it and said that as long as the perp is in the house, I have a right to use deadly force to protect life and property. She just said to make sure that when my wife is calling 911 (I told her to wait last night, again, maybe a dumb move on my part), to tell the dispatcher that I am also carrying.

    :hsd:

The night of the next open house, I am going to have the wife stay at the parents with the dog and sit in the shadows and see if this happens again :coolugh:

didn't see that coming. just figured it wouldn't be the first post

  5. As far as tactics go, be careful going outside, you don't know if the guy is waiting next to the door to catch you as you come out.

looked out the sliding glass door first to see, then went to the front door. meant to add that. then checked the peep hole. probably why I never found the guy, taking all that time. but in hindsight, glad I didn't have to take any more serious action. :hs:

    where are you again?

and are you talking about the indoors DF range, or the conservation club

if you're near madison, I have a place we can shoot (a whole open field with a 200' wooded hill at the end). I think it's around 100 yards and I have access whenever I want.

Horicon. I was talking about the indoor range; didn't know about the conservation club. I would rather go to an outdoor range, though, because I haven't shot the rifles in awhile because all the outdoor ranges around me are private and mucho bucks to join :hs:

    jesus fucking northwoods, batman.

my place is just west of Madison.

EDIT: and the indoor deerfield range is a bitch because yeah, only handguns and you can't really practice anything besides shooting (and the owner is a cocksucker) and it's expensive. the conservation club you have to go and become a member, and their outdoor pistol/rifle range isn't the greatest.

Meh, Horicon isn't too bad...I work in Milwaukee, my commute is only 53 miles :dunno: Unless you were talking about the pace of life here, in which case you are dead on :o

I've only shot at the Deerfield range once, and the owner wasn't douchy. However, I was there shooting to requalify back when I worked for an armored car place, and they used that place for everything so the owner was nice to us.

cool. maybe he's not a douche anymore. there's a black guy there who is really nice.

well, we'll have to put something together. I really think my buddies place would be perfect for a true shoot and maybe do some practicing besides just shooting down range

That'd be great. And I can bring the beer for afterward...I've currently got about 8 cases out in the garage and get even more every month :o

In fact, I have to dump some of it out cause I didn't drink it fast enough and it tastes like shit :hs:

You obviously didn't do what I told you, and your "houseguests" sensed that you were soft and were coming to make a bitch outta you.

have a dog. I wouldn't shoot someone ON my property unless they had a firearm pointed at me.
