I am quite happy but I am having a hard time concealing my full sized HK USP .40. I got what the dude at the shop and my friend suggested, a cheap Uncle Mikes holster and I wear it clipped on my belt. My HK is fully covered but it pokes out pretty bad wearing summer clothes in FL. I don't want to have problems so is there a rule of thumb for what is considerd concealed enough?

You need a better holster or a smaller gun.

Lose the Uncle Mikes. Pick up a better holster. Milt Sparks VM-2 (or other), Comptac CTAC or MTAC, Tucker Answer, or any other big name brand. Just do some research on what works best.

    Or, buy a smaller gun.

Get a better belt and holster. You should be able to CCW a USP with sensible clothes.

I think I am going with a pocket carry Kahr PM9 in a desantis super fly pocket holster for summer carry.

I agree what others have said. No its not impossible to conceal a full size HK USP, but its not easy by any means.
Find a better carry gun, or if you can't or don't want to spend the money for a new gun, at least find a better holster, Uncle Mike's are a joke for the most part, and gun shops love to recommend them to unsuspecting customers that don't know better.

Check online, there's a lot of info and a lot of great holsters available, but with some of them you're going to sacrifice a little more money, and often going to have to wait for it too.

I have a Comp-Tac MTAC and I love it. ~$80 from their website. Highly recommended.
Tuckers and Milt Sparks are also very highly recommended.

Why do they like to tell people to get Uncle Mikes? What incentive do they have to do that.

    Several reasons.

    1. Most gun store employees are idiots and actually know very little about guns and their accessories.

    2. It gets you out the door, makes you think you're happy with your purchase, and they just sold a holster that has been in their inventory for 5 years because everyone else knows better and won't touch it.

It's usually a stocking item, I'm sure they have a good bit of mark up, most are sized instead of custom for the particular pistol model. Easy to sell. As has been said you're not attempting the impossible by concealing a full size USP, but you're certainly not making it easy on yourself. You'll need a good holster and a good belt to get close to getting the job done.

The biggest thing for me. Is that I really really want to try on a holster before I buy it.

I'm 250 and I'm telling you it doesn't get easier to conceal as you get fatter, trust me.

The more fat you have the more the gun pushes into you.. I am under 200 but if I were to lose 20 pounds it would be much easier.

Also, on the Tucker leather holsters it is a 5 month wait.

Comp-Tac MTAC, no wait. I love it. Conceals well with my Aker B21 belt. But the gun is still a very important component.
unfortunately, you have a relatively heavy gun, and on top of that, it's not very skinny.

I have new clips now, the new standard clips, and they are WAY better than the c-clips in that picture.

Best no wait holster IMHO is the Comp Tac MTAC. They have great customer service, quick delivery, and you may even get some Smarties candy with your order.

The spartan model isn't lined on the back side. For comfort reasons I recommend the standard MTAC.

MTAC all the way. I love the adjustable clips too, I have them set up so the gun is way down in my pants.
Just the handle sticks out, its great.

The first thing, above all else, you need to get yourself a good gun belt. The belt is a lot more important than you might think.
    I recommend the Aker B21 from www.copquest.com
Then you need a good holster. I recommend this http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=35&products_id=95

If you have a good belt and holster, and you STILL can't carry the USP comfortably, then maybe you need to look into a smaller, more concealable gun.

    1.5" standard clip.
I ordered mine with the c-clips first, and was quite unhappy with them. I called them up and complained about the way the c-clips worked and told them I was unhappy with them, and surprisingly they sent me standard clips at no charge. I was expecting to have to buy new ones. They were awesome.

So I recommend just getting the standard clips.
