I was rolling with my largest training partner (230 lbs) and shoot a double. He sprawls on me really hard, and we turn into a wierd angle where all of his weight was on my leg which was bent and turned on the ground (felt exactly like a heel hook) I heard something pop a few times near my thigh and we stopped right there. I stand up and notice that I can still walk, and nothing noticable was damaged. We continue with me on bottom of guard. He reaches behind with both arms to attempt an unorthodox guard pass, and when my left leg bent a little to the left, the pain was unbearable on my left knee. He said that he recognized this injury, and I sprained my MCL (???) on my left leg.

Really sucks... but hopefully it will heal quickly.

I don't have any ice packs in my apt at the moment, and it doesn't hurt while just sitting here. Only when I bend it to the left.

tomorrow I am going to my school's health and wellness center. I am not that worried about it, because I can do all normal things fine (at least so far) such as walking. It will just make it hard to roll in bjj for a bit, and also squatting will be unbearable.

my ex re-tore her ACL earlier this year and she didn't know it until a few weeks later when she was in excruciating pain. the doctor said that she essentially had no ACL at all

yikes... the ACL is on the outside of the knee right? And she was able to walk after it tore?

... I am getting a little more worried about this now. I am just assuming that mine is just a sprain because I can still walk.

it's between your joints i believe. she was able to walk after it tore, but she was in great pain. she eventually had to go through PT for awhile afterwards, but now she's ok (less having no ACL). she just can't play lots of sports, especially ones that require cutting a lot like basketball and soccer

training standing is kind of nerve wracking for that reason. knee injuries are common from twisting or quick motions during sprawling.

good luck man, injuries are super annoying. itll prob be okay. just take care of it.

I feel like I am having all the bad luck. This summer in the MIDDLE of my tournament match, I strained my lower back muscle. Worst injury ever.

Shit happens I guess. Diego Sanchez mentioned not being able to walk after suffering an injury while training for the TUF1 finale. He was on crutches even. Just don't let it discourage you. Come back stronger :bigthumb:

acl and mcl injuries are common, and also very bad. a lot of times if any of those are torn, your going to need surgery. go get it checked out, and hopefully its not that bad. good luck to you.

the guy that did it to me is a heavyweight and strong as hell. Usually htey are not a problem but he had postured and stood up so I went to hook both of his legs at the same time and pull him down and me over the top into mount. Well he cranked while my hands were down there and I had nothing to push off of, i opened my guard but still heard a big ass pop and a week later I still can't fucking sleep and it keeps getting worse. :wtc:

yeah that's exactly the sweep I use when someone does that to me, except I open my guard as I hook the ankles and push up with my shins into their midsection... although I guess I've never had a dude hang onto my head for dear life as he went down.

sucks balls man. training is a bitch like that sometimes :sadwavey:

my neck is just now recovering from getting neck cranked several times because dudes tried to choke me but couldn't sink it, and instead just squeezed the piss out of my head and face. I finally learned to relax my neck instead of tensing to fight it, and didn't get my neck fucked up last nite when that happened.
