Where I competed in The grapple leagues texas tournament. I was in Mens no-gi beginner middleweight (180-194 lbs)

I made weight right on the money, and since my division got started 6 hours late, I had plenty of time to recover from cutting (pedialyte ftw)

I ended up getting tapped my first match. The guy was really strong and explosive, and obviously had a background in wrestling.

I'm still happy with how things turned out, I learned a whole lot, the match wasn't completely one sided, as I nearly had a guillotine on him after he got me down with a double.

Lot's of fun, next tournament is sometime in december... since I'll have more time to cut, I'm going to compete in a lower weight class if I can.

He had me back mounted, and I was turning around to face him as to end up in his guard... when I was on my side he caught me with an armbar.

In hindsight that seems pretty basic to do, but its the first time I've ever seen that one.

How long did the match last? Did you find that cutting before the match took some of your strength/endurance away?

I had about 3 weeks to prepare, so i cut carbs for weight for 2 weeks to get me right around my target weight, so I had a whole week to start eating normal again to maintain that... at that point my energy levels were fine. I cut a few lbs of water weight just to be sure the day before, and it paid off because the weigh-in scale had me at 194, where my home scale said the same before the water came off.

The day of, I drank pedialyte for re-hydration, and had an energy bar in the morning, and would have about a quarter of a bar when I got hungry later on. i didn't want to go into a match with anything in my stomach, and I didnt know exactly when I would fight, so this seemed like the best plan.

Physically I felt great when i stepped on the mat, my energy was good as ever, so I suppose my cutting strategy worked out for me.

I don't have an exact length of the match, but about a minute sounds right. I was pretty tired, but then I'm also not in the best shape... I'm a very soft 194 lbs :)

That was my goal. I do very well when I roll with local guys who have more experience than me, so I wanted to see how good I really am. From just that one match and watching all the others, I learned a lot about what I need to do to be where I want to be.
