dude made everything hurt. his shoulder pressure from side control was insane on my face. he really emphasized knee on belly and that shit felt like knee strikes on my torso.
we rolled nogi (i thought knee on belly was useless in nogi :o ) and started on the feet.

i was trying out this gym since i just found out about it and its very close to my house, my current gym is about 30minutes away.
but i do feel honored to have trained with him. :wiggle:
he's getting his black belt in a couple weeks. not sure if its before or after his fight in sengoku.

he had his class go 4 rounds.
first guy was a brand new 205er, next was nam, then a 155lb strong grunting beast, then nam again.

usually the head instructor never rolls with students, especially people new to the school. odd but exciting.

I remember watching his hype video where he was beating up some fat guy and then Nam lost a bunch of fights, maybe he can win the tournament though

Nam is a really great grappler. He's been on a nice tear lately - hopefully he makes a run in Sengoku.

seriously i felt like i was on bully beatdown. he north-south choked me so many times, and even when i got a little smarter to defend it, i ended up getting kimura'd or he would be able to use his incredible squeeze and just use one arm to north-south choke me. :o

He's only lost to the best guys in the world besides the BS Ertl decision. He got robbed there.

    Nam is fucking awesome.

Josh Thomson said that Nam Phan is probably the best grappler on the west coast. probably an exaggeration, but it still means a lot coming from somebody with Thomson's pedigree

    false.

my take on him was that he's professional and business focused.
i've met much nicer and helpful instructors/fighters.

When I roll with guys 200lbs or over I utilize this like a bitch(knee on belly). I honestly don't know why more people don't use it, or at least the tournaments I've seen. My buddy could have potentially won a tournaments a year ago if he had done it when he had the chance, but stayed to long in side control got caught back in half guard then swept :wtc: It sucked to see what followed, the ride home was close to silent .
