left tuesday morning, US mountain time, arrived wednesday afternoon at the forward operating location, left friday morning around midnight, got back friday afternoon (mountain time).

38.5 flying hours (17.8 over and 20.7 back) and spent a grand total of ~35 hours in country. i would have written a post yesterday but i crashed pretty hard last night since i hadn't slept in about 30 hours.

anyway, it was a great experience, flying through some really interesting areas of the world (16,000 mile round-trip). we went over to swap out some jets (B-1s) for phase maintenance.

i took some pics but i have to sift through them for OPSEC reasons before i post them.

it was my first time in the desert but i'm heading back in a month or so and staying until later in the summer. i will say that it was very motivating, and that we're kicking ass over there - while i was there a number of sorties dropped weapons (which is hopefully what i'll be doing in a month or so). the terrorists and taliban fools are giving us anything but a quiet winter this year, but that's fine with us, just keeps us busier.

anyway, hopefully i'll get a least a few pics uploaded soon.

and for those who wonder, yes flying ~18-20 hours straight in a bomber sucks balls for the most part, and dexadrine is a wonderful drug, as is ambien.

totally worth it though - got my tax free for the month :o

I'm wondering what would actually qualify as "opsec" nowadays.

that was one thing that struck me - flying over some of the most turbulent areas of the world, and how peaceful it all looked from 20,000 feet. it was eerily disturbing how similar cities look from the air, whether they're in Michigan or Iraq.

i had a blast at pensacola. it was extremely stressful and difficult (you put most of the stress on yourself), but very rewarding and compared to the training at randolph...basically there is no comparison.

the flying is great and it's great to learn about other services and have friends all over the military.

i would say absolutely go for it - it's the only way you'll end up in a strike aircraft as a nav, unless you like the idea of riding in a C-130 or RC-135.

If they're anything like the crews on the 130's, they set autopilot and sleep.:)
