Anything I should know besides the obvious? I've got about 102 movies to watch on it, but didn't know if there was anything else I could consider using it for.

well, you can watch TV on it as well... and if you have a nice stereo system you can stream your itunes music through the apple tv and listen to your tunes that way.. pretty nice if you have a get together at the crib

I do have a question...the site says nothing about .avi files. Most of mine are .mp4 so i'm not too concerned but I do have a couple that are .avi.

    look into xbmc...
they just released an update maybe 2-3 days ago...

I like how it looks better than boxee... although if you're into streaming online video contecnt (netflix/hulu/etc) boxee is better...

but this is for ripping new DVD's, not ones that already exist. Unless i'm doing something wrong, i've been under the impression that you can't re-rip a ripped movie.

Well, tried re-ripping it to the AppleTV setting and it just quit on me. :(

However, forgetting that I have QT Pro, I am now converting to AppleTV format as we speak. :wiggle:

I actually use Mac the Ripper to pull my dvd's down, and then use Handbreak to format it to any of the formats I need (ie: iPhone, AppleTV). Whole process takes about an hour for the iPhone, and about an hour and a half for the AppleTV formats. Good luck! I <3 my AppleTV.

Don't take this as being rude, cause it isn't meant to be...but i'm already doing all that. :p

All rips from here on out from DVD's are being done in the AppleTV format. however, I had some existing .avi and such files that can't be loaded into itunes that I needed help with and found a fix.

i do want to know if anyone else has a problem opening a .avi file in handbrake and converting it. it force quit on me and wouldn't do it. QTPro does it just fine, but takes about 1-2 hours per video to do.

I'm thinking of doing boxee as a couple movies still won't transfer for some reason (tried converting Catch Me if you Can today and it took 4-5 hours before saying failed :( )

Any tips on how to install boxee?

Sounds like it is similar to xbmc...at least they reference it on their site.

I'm seriously thinking of doing boxee though.
