My guard unit has just been activated to help out with the flood relief efforts in the Red River Valley/Fargo/Moorehead. Gotta be standing tall in the armory in a few hours. See you guys in a couple of weeks, and if i'm lucky, i'll have shots of Militiamen doing what they were meant to do...

    See you later folks. :sadwavey:

Record setting. In 1997 it was bad. This year it's damn near epic.

Some more info on it HERE.

Good luck out there! And while you're at it, take some photos for the Duluth News Tribune, their story was boring without flood pictures.

There are nearly a thousand ND guard members activated now, SD is sending up 250 along with a few dozen HP personnel and a bunch of equipment. How many are coming from WI and where are they deploying? MN side?

Dude, thanks for coming out here and helping! I'm in Bismarck and it's been crazy how much water we have. I used to live in Fargo, but moved in 97 during the flood.

I have a friend that works for FEMA and he's expecting it to get pretty hairy tommorow when the river is expected to crest.

Here in Bismarck we've got some relief because the water level had dropped in the last few days, but there's another ice block (like the picture below) that's set to release any day now, and when it does, southern Bismarck and Mandan are pretty much fucked.

Here is a crappy automatic panorama I took a few days ago when the flooding was really bad. Since then we've got another few inches of rain, and almost a foot of snow to compound shit.

Living through katrina and rita in Louisiana, I can attest that the guardsmen are the only ones who get things done. Fema is worthless. The people will be happy to see you, stay safe.

that's what I was fearing. If we get any ice starting to come through (which if it was it should have already) downtown Fargo is toast considering there are now 4 bridges to hold it back.

    ND OTAP represent!

Where's the flooding in Fargo taking place? Is the river over by the golf course on the north side of town (was it Elzagle?) flooding up a storm yet? I really need to make the trip down to Fargo one of these days and see what's up.

ElZagel will go under water not long past 30'.
Down south is where the most damage has been done - mostly with houses that were between the emergency levees and the river that had personal levees fail. There is some damage north of town but so far that doesn't seem bad. Oakport which is north of Moorhead (subdivision) has lost 500 homes.

So far nothing IN Fargo has been threatened. Its at 40.67' right now (and slowed drastically in the last few hours) which puts it over the top (into the sandbags on top of) of the huge permanent levee just south of downtown.

Going to be an interesting next couple of days to see where it does actually crest at. Right now I'll be surprised if it does make 41'

    Good luck.

Sounds like Interstate 94 Westbound has been closed for about 80 miles?
