Just got a new 5D, as an upgrade to my XTI.. Got a great deal w/ the 24-105 f/4L I could not pass up. I Had to run home and pick up the package as my wife is in hospital bedrest in her last weeks into pregnancy. not too much interesting objects in our hospital room so I had to improvise... I think all but one of these are taken at ISO 1600 to test noise. noise handling on the 5D is

all these shots were taken in our small hospital room.

It is if you expose properly for high ISO. If you're shooting RAW and high(er) ISO, overexpose a bit and bring it back down in post. Shit, ISO 100 is noisy if you don't watch the histogram and underexpose the shot and try to bring it back up in post.

how much was this great deal?

Also can you take some shots in the low light without a flash at F4 and IS on. I really wana see if the IS can make up for the stop loss at F4.

see I never understood that. sure in theory it works, but in practice, when I am at iso 3200, i am generally underexposing because I need the shutter speed. i guess its the difference between people who shoot test shots in their house vs actual photography out in the field

looks like it's bright in there but the lighting in this shot was VERY low.. exposure was 1/2 sec as seen in the exif data below, hand-held of course:

Same shot with the rebel XTi for comparison, using kit lens@ 55mm f/5.6 1/2sec exp and 1600ISO

wtf? 75mm at 1/2 second hand held???? Is this an IS lens or do you have a super grip.

 thanks much for this. Do you generally have a steady hand or is the IS really that good?
