Hey guys just sold my quad core PC for a Mac Mini. Couldn't be happier  I love OS X and am glad i finally made the switch. I have a few questions though..

The mouse i am using, it is a Dynex with the internet buttons on the side, where you can hit the button on the left with your thumb and it will go to the previous webpage you were viewing. Can you do this with OS X? It's not working right now.

Also in windows when you press the CTRL button along with the backspace button it deletes entire words instead of character by character. Does OSX have this feature?

    Thanks guys

Also, any need-to-do things i should be aware of? Must have software? I'm pretty new to this and dont have a clue about this OS. Thanks again

option-delete deletes entire words. For "show desktop" you have a couple options. You can set up expose is system preferences to have a hot corner set up so when you put your mouse in the corner of your display it shows the desktop or your can set up and F-Key to do the same.

Some one else will be able to help you with the mouse button issue.

some quick things you can try are deleting the printer drivers (OSX ships with like 4GB of printer drivers) and, if you want, using Monolingual to delete extra language translations (4GB).

Quicksilver is a must-have. (the windows clone is Launchy) the more you learn it, the less you'll use your mouse. check for tutorials online. for example, with a few tweaks, i can send updates to twitter and compose messages in gmail without opening a browser or any other software.

for video conversion, Visualhub (new project called Video Monkey which is building on VH, but it's in pre-alpha)
    for audio conversaion, Audialhub
for DVD ripping, Handbrake + VLC. (free and free)
for twitter, Twitteriffic + Growl (free and free)
    MUST INSTALL PeerGuardian (free)
for image editing, Pixelmator. ($60, 100% worth it)
    for program uninstall, AppDelete (free)
    for FTP, CyberDuck (free)
    for BitTorrent, Vuze (free)
for OS virtualization, Virtualbox (same as parallels and VMware, but free)

Take some time to look through all the iLife apps, I'm an amatuer at photo and video editing, but they can do some cool stuff. Exploring macs and customizing all the shortcuts and features to work the way you want them to is one of the coolest things about macs if out ask me. Glad to hear you are enjoying it.

Others will chime in soon, but you'll need at least one codec pack for videos and Flip4mac. I think the codec pack that works the best is Perian.

there's a folder called "printers" that has subfolders for each brand of printer driver, which i routinely delete. google first.

and, i used transmission for a long time, but switched to Vuze because it had more features.

damn good stuff. I had been using utorrent for a long time on my PC and loved it. It was the first thing i downloaded on my mac, how does it compare to Transmission?

also same question as goten. I downloaded Peerguardian, do i run it when downloading on utorrent? or all the time?

    thanks guys

I haven't used UTorrent for some time, but I can tell you that Transmission is the smallest, lightest, easy to use and simplest torrenting program I have ever used.
