Today I'm going to pick up a CF card so I can start playing around with it. I was thinking just a Lexar 2GB 133X card.

I need some new glass (because right now my lenses are kinda crappy)
    -Sigma 20mm 1.8
-Kodak (don't laugh) something-200mm (it was free!)
    -Nikon N55 kit lense (28-80)

I was thinking my first major purchase for it would be a new flash, but I don't even know where to begin. This is just a hobby of mine, I'm not shooting anything for pay, nor will I attempt to without subjecting myself to the mercy of OTAP.

    1. Try and sell the Kodak pile of donkey spit and put money aside
    2. Not sure about the Sigma lens but it sounds like a decent prime...keep it.
    3. 28-80 kit lens isn't all that great...sell said lens and pick up Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
    4. Look for used SB600 or SB800
    5. profit?

I second the SB600. And depending on how much you want to spend for a lens... For an all-around every-day type lens you could get a base lens, the Nikon 18-55 for $100? It'll do pretty well, I've used mine for about a year now since I couldn't afford anything else and it does an okay job. But, I would replace that with the Nikon 18-135 for $400. If you can afford more, the Nikon 18-200 VR for $750. Another lens that is pretty inexpensive that is kind of nice to have sometimes (mainly for the 1.8)is the 50mm 1.8. I can't remember how much it is... maybe around 150? A starter telephoto would be the Nikon 70-300 4.5/5.6.

Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to head back to the main forum now.

In all honesty, my external flash has caused the most drastic change in my photography since I've went digital. New lenses are awesome, and the 17-50 would be a great addition to your camera, but I think if you're just starting out, the flash would give you the best ability to get your lighting and exposure correct.

I have too many expensive hobbies :p.

The Sigma is my favorite lense just because it's a 1.8...but anyways, I think I'll pick up the Tamron first and an SB600/800 based on your recommendations...thanks :).

That's what I was thinking. I have an N55 but I never got an external flash for it. If you all think of anything else, please, suggest away.
