i've been lurking around F&N for a while, so i thought i would tell something about myself before i just start posting. i'm 20 yrs old, 6'3, and 158 lbs. i've decided i'm tired of being small, as it seems like quite a few people here have at some point, so i've made it my goal to gain some weight this summer. i have no idea how much weight i can actually gain, since i've never weighed more than about 165, and i've never made a conscious effort to gain weight before. i'm gonna try to start taking in about 3500 cals and see how that works out. i found the Bill Starr routine that Christophers posted and that seems to have worked for people, so thats what i'm gonna try as well. i tried to start it today, but the university decided that it would be a good idea to close its main gym for a few weeks which meant that i had to use the shitty, albeit newer gym, with only 1 rack for squatting and "No Deadlifting Allowed":ugh: so i guess the deadlifting will have to wait until the second week of june...

heres a few "before" pics that i took last sunday. none of my legs at the moment, but theres absolutely nothing to see there anyway...

You look almost exactly like I did 6 months ago. Good luck- lift hard, eat a shit-ton, and get sleep. Also, as much as it sucks, cut back on drinking to one or 2 nights a week, tops :wtc:

Listen to this guy. Don't stop eating, period, and don't be afraid of fatty foods, if they have decent nutritional value otherwise.

Well, you don't have anything to lose, that's for sure :wiggle: eat your butt off, or on in this case. Good luck!

you mean having the back of my neck and half of my arms tan isnt enough?

yeah... i have a feeling that this is going to be the most difficult thing for me to maintain. i usually take in about 2200 - 2400 cals per day, so upping that by over 1000 might take some getting used to.

i'm always up for competition. what did you weigh before you stopped last?

It depends...if you're upping it by 1000 dirty calories, you can easily do that (ie a double cheeseburger, fries, and a drink). If you're upping by 1000 clean calories, you're going to be eating a lot of food. My breakfast is 1 cup of egg whites, 1 cup of oatmeal, and a banana. That's right around 300 calories and by the time I'm done eating, my stomach hurts

If you increase the amount of time you're awake during the day, it'll be easier for you to eat more. Make sure you get 8 hrs of sleep though.

I haven't weighed myself in a while. I was weighing in at like 167, but I think I've lost a little. I'll see if I can't get on a scale tonight to see.

What kind of conditions do you want? 6 months? Year? Who weighs more? Who looks the best(per a F&N vote)?

For good or for ill, I've never understood why some people eat so little.

I'm the same height and I weigh 225. Granted, I could stand to lose about 10-15 lbs of fat, but still...

    EAT!

Why the egg whites then ?
    Chose something in there :
    - Peanut-butter/banana sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread = 500-600 cals
    - 1 cup of steel cut oats, 2 serving of whey = 900 cals
    - 3 eggs, some egg whites, cheese

And I don't know how you add things up because 1 cup of oats = 300 cals, 1 banana = 150 cals usually, and 1 cup of egg whites would be around 125 cals I think. Total = 600 cals.

Good Luck with your weight gain / muscle building adventure

I have a similar body type than you, just a little more definition around the chest and stuff.. but I am 5'8" between 135-140 and I have been increasing my eating a lot and the difference starts to show pretty quick if you keep at it (that is what I find to be the hardest thing, getting stuck on the routine for more than a month or so) I tend to get some big design project thrown at me and then forget to workout because I become a slave :o

I agree with the Eggs & Chicken thing too.. I eat 5 Eggs everyday when I wake up and Chicken Titties are probably my favorite food.

A box of deluxe mac and cheese is like 850+ calories.

Lets do 6 months, and who looks best by vote. Reason I say to do who looks best is while weight is important, the reason I want to gain the weight is so I look better, so it makes more sense to me.

thanks to everyone else for the support/suggestions
