Just giving an update, today was officially my last day as a specialist in the army. i cleared at 530 this morning and like i said earlier i am going to colorado state university on the green to gold scholarship. i couldn't be happier but to be honest i have no closure with all my friends. it was just ok your out, your done, bye. now i probably won't see most of them again and i've been in the same unit for four years. to say it saddens me right now is an understatement. anyone else been through this? what the fuck i am supposed to be so happy but i can't imagine just leaving all of it forever (well four years might as well be forever i talk to none of my friends from hs). well anyways post your stories about clearing or pcsing and how it worked out.

    It's a very small world.

I went on terminal leave last month. Now I'm working as a civ with 5 other people that were in my platoon. :)

Quite true. I’m amazed at how many times I cycled through people I worked with.

I was sitting in Pristina Airport in Kosovo - waiting for a Mac flight back to Germany when I got ambushed from two directions by two people I had known seperately at different times. One was an NCO from an old unit at Bragg and another was a classmate of mine from ROTC.

Another story I remember was in ROTC when one of the Captains was giving his spiel about Artillery gunnery - he stopped mid-sentence and called out one of the cadets in Disbelief - the cadet was his driver from when he was a platoon leader - guy got all flustered and couldn't finish his presentation because he couldn't believe the driver had chosen to do ROTC.

You'll see your buddies again and some of them even as Lieutenants or Captains with you.

I'll wager though - many of the guys that you didn't have closure with; weren't sure what to think that you were taking steps to take a different direction with your life. It is for the better.

In my ten years in the Air Force I have ran across tons of people either through deployments, travels or PCS.

I keep in touch with some but not everyone though sometimes you just run into them. It is nice to have friends all over the place.

You are going to bigger and better things, so congrats man.

First of all congrats mang. But I think they might be jealous broski. I know a lot of people were when I was getting out... especially with what I got and still receive from only being in 4 years. I only talk to 5 tops from my old sq. but they are ones that were same rank and we worked together and hung out together and 3 T/S-Sgt’s that looked out for me that I still talk too.

Imagine being in a branch that is smaller than NYPD.

Everyone in the USCG pretty much knows eachother after a few years.

it was time for you to go. being in the same unit for four years is too long.

there's more people to see and places to go, be happy.
