Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I just bought a 2003 Yamaha R6 with jacket, helmet, and gloves for $4000. I think this is more than a steal considering that most of the ad's i've looked at have the R6's going for around $6000. I'm having the bike shipped to my house via an escrow service. I get a 5 day grace period where I get the chance to ride and look over the bike. If I don't approve of it, then the guy doesn't get the money. I'm actually a pretty new rider. I've gone through the MSF course and everything and am excited to start riding. What kind of maintenance should I be doing, since this is my first bike, I don't really know much about it yet. Thanks and I'm glad there is finally a forum for us now. :bigthumb:

Yes God forbid there is some one out there responsible enough to handel a r6 as a first bike. Just beacsue it is not a beater ass 250, he is going to kill him slef right? You can die just as fast on a 250 or something slow as you can on a R6. He said he took MSF class, he jsut has to be carefull, as carefull as being on anything else.

Any way man let us see pics when you get the bike, good job on the find if it is in good shape. Ride safe take your time to learn.

Thanks man. People are always saying that starting on a 600 is like an automatic death wish. I think that it has everything to do with whether or not your mentally ready. Just because you have a bike doesn't mean that everyone is going to go out and start racing and seeing how hard he could push the bike. I took the class, learned how to ride a bike and now it's just a matter of getting more experience. I think that can be done on either a 250 or 600. As long as you ride smart.

People more knowledgable than you, I might add.
People are 'always saying' that too. Usually it's the people who were just told that they shouldn't start on an R6. Think about it.
And you consider riding smart to be buying a bike that almost every experienced rider tells you is too advanced to start on? That's riding smart?

I see you trying to convince yourself and everyone else that you're special, that you're different, that you're a mature rider. But you're not. You're just like every other squid who goes out and buys the bike that looks cool. If a Ninja 250 looked like an R6, you'd buy it then, wouldn't you? You little squiddy.

What are you trying to accomplish? I'm sure now that you've expressed your opinion on the matter in an oh so hateful manner that he'll realize his error and run back to where he got it and demand his money back. Then, he'll buy a Rebel 250 and be totally satisfied.

    :ugh:

Awesome deal and good luck! Wear your gear and always keep your eyes moving. Oh, and check out the R6 message board. There are lots of people on that board and they have pretty good advice. :)

it's funny, because no one forced your mom into taking a driving class before buying an SUV that she has no idea how to properly use the mirrors on.

no one will tell you to start with a Yugo before progressing to a Corvette should you want one.

but yet you feel the need to flex your e-muscles because someone got a great deal on a bike and is truly happy with their decision.

    grow up.

If you felt competent enough to start on a 600, why not get an older, cheaper one in case you do drop it.

for $4000, why not get a newer R6?.. that's a fooking steal.. back in '00 i bought a '99 SV650 to learn on and i thought that was a steal at $4000.. i sold it 2 years later for $4000..

granted the R6 has twice as much HP as my first bike and the SV has a much more linear torque curve since its a twin but if i had seen an R6 for $4K i would have been all over that..

    ignore all the haters.. :bigthumb:

I saw a kid on a brand new R6 yesterday. My guess was he was just bringing it home from the dealer. He was all over the place, riding the brake, lurching, and weaving in the lane. :mamoru:

Hopefully you have a little more experience. Good luck and go easy.
