a 20D with the EF-S 18-55 kit lens and some filters for 980 new. I didn't get ripped did I? :noes:

I was debating the rebel with a better lens (XT or XTi with 28-105) vs 20D with kit lens and figured I could always up my lens later but that the added features of the 20D would come in handy.

Considering 2 used ones with kit lens just went for 860+ on ebay I figured to go for it. And I got it, perhaps not new, but still in the box unopened...

The 50 1.8 beats the kit lens by a mile in quality.....

hmmm... perhaps. Oh well, all I had to do to get mine was walk a block down the street and pic it up. I guess that's the price of convenience.

The 50 1.8 has its place and can certainly yield better pics than the 18-55, but I think it's a bad choice for the 1st lens.

I think it's a great choice for the 2nd lens or 1st prime however.

I have no idea what you intend to shoot but the 18-55 is fine and if your shooting landscape or what not just make sure you open it up a bit to say f11-16

expensive imo. I've seen used 20Ds go for $650-700. I bought my 20D used a year ago for $700-750 (can't remember exact price).

The more I hear the numbers the less I think I got ripped off.

I got a UV, FLD and circular Polarizer (~$70) Kit Lens (even on the cheapest end $50) and a unused 20D ($~850 (or less depending on price of new kit lens) with tax included and a year canon full service warranty.

I'd say you got a pretty good deal. Finding that camera new is worth the premium.

    I just hate that lens.
