So I'm planning on joining the Army (Australia) when I leave school (two years time) and there are a few questions I never got up to asking the recruiters.

Is it highly frowned upon or unreccomended to go for a "combat-only" job? I'm fairly light weight and don't play much sports but I am incredibly fit and don't have a criminal record so would they take me? What kind of stuff do these grunts do when they are not deployed? What exactly is meant by the term "active duty"? How much time do you tend to be deployed for and how often?

Be great if someone could fill me in...

Start the process as soon as possible, Manpower are fucking retards.

Dunno if it's 'frowned upon', right now with 5/7 delinking and 8/9 being reraised I'd think they'd want anyone they can get their grubby little mitts on.

From the figures I've seen they get more guys wanting to go combat arms than not so I'd assume they probably would have a crack at getting you into the support services.

As for deployments I'd probably brush up on failed states of the pacific rim.

Disclaimer: Not in, just going through the process myself.
