i read this article: http://feeds.engadget.com/~r/weblogsinc/engadget/~3/qeKTDcXfYVU/ on engadget.

a CEO of some company says that iPhone owners will all buy different phones once their 2-year contracts expire on June 29, 2009. I think it's interesting because i still have my original iPhone - i don't think the 3G is worth the price of an early upgrade.

    so:

do you think apple will release new hardware before 6/29?
what could the upgrade be? (does ATT even have a 4G network yet?)

and if there's no new hardware, what do you think will happen?

I have no intention of getting rid of mine. I still have the original, I may upgrade to the 3G at some point, but I've also heard that there might be a new one coming out, though I cant imagine what it could be that would be much of an upgrade as you cant go faster than 3G at this point.

I don't think people will drop it. The ones that switch to the newest thing have already left the iPhone if they don't like it but those that have come to know and love all the things it can do for them won't switch even if there isn't a new model available.

I dumped my original for the 3g, so I'll be on this for another year unless I break it. The monthly bill is a motherfucker though.

McNamee is an idiot. I have no reason to switch from my original iPhone to a Palm Pre on June 29th.

It's the CEO of some company who invested in an iPhone competitor, of course he is going to talk shit. Too bad the jokes on this guy... he needs a haircut bad, too.

Only reason I would switch is because of ATT. Lately 50% of the time when I call someone I can hear them but they can't hear me until I call back. So not necessarily because of my 3g but it plays a big annoying factor.

I upgraded from my original 2G iPhone to a 3G because I unlocked & eBayed my 2G for a profit.

The rumored new iPhone would have to have a large memory upgrade as well as some of that new battery tech from the 17" MBP for me to switch.

well the guy is full of shit, and at best he's just trying to create drama.

really what im interested in is the next version of the iphone - will it come out this year, what the next innovation will be, etc.

just like the 3G, minor bump in speed / storage won't get me to switch.
