"Practical Rifle" is a club run event that's been around for more than 10 years. It's put together by black rifle enthusiasts at a local Oregon club, and stresses "practical" uses of rifles.

As the cop who ran the safety briefing said, doesn't matter if you use your rifles for your job, for home defense, for fun, or are just a crazy and paranoid lunatic, the goal of these matches is to help rifle shooters learn or gain something. As such, the rules are kept relatively simple, and everything is left up to the discretion of the match director.

Targets were between 50 to 200 yards, and mostly steel. I can't judge distance for shit, and I choked a few times. I had the worst showing out of the WMDers, but there is always next time, lol.

Market_Garden and I rolled down to this and helped set up at 7:30 in the morning after a 3.5 hour drive from Seattle. At the match, we met Keesh, HossB7, and Keesh's buddy.

These pictures were taken with my cheap point and shoot digi-cam, I'm sure Keesh's pictures will be far more entertaining.

Got 47 photos, most are boring shots of us shooting, so i've made some select postings.

    Must go sleep.

BTW: I'm pretty sure i'm OCD, love cleaning my rifle as much as i like shooting it.

I'm the skinniest guy there, and also had the worst score (i think).

Correlation? I think not. BRB, off to F&N forum for rec for steroids.

[IMG]I suddenly want to build a tactical segway.

  8. Scores are up. Finishing order was this:

    Hoss 11th
    Me 14th
    Keesh 16th
    Chip 22nd
    Keesh's Friend 24th

    There were 51 total shooters.

Lessons learned... On stage 3 (the stage with 8" steel targets @ 200 yards that were so shot up they were literally invisible to guys with unmagnified optics) I should simply have taken my 3 shots and then given up on those targets. That would only have added 40 total seconds to my time, which would have moved me up easily to 8th or 9th place overall. Also, next time I'm bringing a magnified optic, as this match is HEAVILY skewed towards magnified optics. That all said, it was a shitload of fun to shoot and it was really cool to get to meet Hoss and Jake. It's definitely something that we should all do again.

Did you get his last name? I'm thinking he might be the guy who placed 13th.

  14. He was shooting irons, the guy in 13th was listed as an optic shooter.

OIC, I'm surprised I beat him since he did so well on the final stage.

    You probably won't like it........

    Just saying.

  18. Maybe not. The magnifier is only $45 though, so no big deal if I don't. I only want it for stuff like this match. I won't leave it on the rifle normally.

  19. Come to the next one we all show up for. Hopefully we make another one before the summer is over.

More importantly, you don't want to get pulled over in OR.

Those fuckers in smaller towns rely heavily on tickets for revenue, so they LOVE giving tickets to out of staters.

    LOL, how many you got?

I'm just worried at some point they'll get collections to come knocking on your door, plus 500% interest.

2 weeks after i moved back to WA and registered my car, a collections agency hired by the Virginia DMV called me to up to collect and close up Vehicle taxes i owed for that year.
