Judge Says Citizens Need To Buy Guns To Protect Themselves

General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon on Wednesday told a female home invasion victim she needs to buy a gun to protect herself.

"There should be a law that law abiding citizens with no felony convictions should own a gun," the judge said while setting bond for Colton Dobbins.

Judge Moon told Danielle Walker, "I know many fine police officers. But we can't depend on the police to protect us any more."

He said Chattanooga is the 57th most dangerous city in the country, and to many criminals "the value of human life means nothing to them."

The judge said, "With 7,000 foreclosures every day and 6,000 kids dropping out of school" that the crime situation is going to get much worse.

He told the 18-year-old Dobbins he is "lucky to be alive" after barging into the home of Ms. Walker.

Judge Moon said, "If it had been my house you came in on, you would have wound up at Coulter Funeral Home."

Dobbins was charged with forcing his way into Ms. Walker's home where she and her nine-year-old son live. Ms. Walker said Dobbins knocked her to the floor, then two other men entered her home.

Ms. Walker said, "I was afraid for my son."

It's so refreshing to see a little ray of common sense in our political system sometimes

it's not, but his political rivals (judges are elected officials) will try to construe him as "a gun nut" that "supports vigilante justice"
you have to remember that WMD is a safe haven for judges like that, and not every voter thinks similarly to WMD (or even if they do, it may not be as strongly as us).

"vigilante" is liberalspeak for "person who doesn't wait for the police to protect him". If you defend yourself, you're a vigilante. :hsugh:

Apparently you are operating under the false assumption that common sense plays a key role in American politics.

 the local news just did a story on the article, the case, and the judge. they interviewed him and he basically said the same thing, "the cops cannot protect you. everyone should own a gun if you can"

I'd bet that in the vast majority of cases, cops do not prevent a crime from happening. They only deal with the consequences of sed crime after the fact.

this. The only way a LEO can prevent a crime is to be there and deter it from happening by presence. We can't exactly do the "Minority Report" thing and arrest people pre-emptively, that's just wrong, goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for.

so we try to get there fast when we're called, but all too often it's already over and we just take the reports and try to follow up.

As Cooper put it: "You are the protector of your life and property. The police will be there to bring doughnuts and coffee afterward, to take appropriate reports, and clean up the mess." (or something like that)

I wish we had a judge like this in my county.

what really boggles my mind is how, even after cops/judges/everyone says that, people still insist on outlawing the means to their own defense...

  23. There are certain people that for whatever the reason just can't or won't accept that they are responsible for their own safety.

In a perfect world, that's completely okay. Those who won't protect themselves should eventually die out leaving the strong behind.

But unfortunately, those who won't protect themselves feel obligated to render everyone else defenseless.

  25. It's amazing that we let the willfully defenseless impose their will on those who would defend themselves. Kind of the opposite of what a reasonable person would expect.
