MIL Joining the service, would like some advice.

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by CptlPunishment, Nov 16, 2005.

  1. So ive decided that i want to join the service. But now my big question is, what is different about the army, navy, air force, and marines? which one is right for me? Whats the difference between the people in each? The boot camp? The, i guess its called 'mos' choices?(could someone explain more about the MOS too?) Which is more technical? I would like to decide soon and get the ball rolling.

And what happens after i choose? At what point do i sign my life away?

and just some information about me; Im 18, 5'11", 170 pounds (although i dont know where that weight is, im not fat nor buff :hsugh: ), born in america, part korean, raised a hick :hs: . No health problems known. Never done drugs of any kind. Never drank. No police involvement. Never even smoked a cigarrette. Clean driving record. Need any other info just ask.
    Thanks!:wavey:

You got to be kidding? If not then read the stickies at the begining of forum. In short Army is on land and navy is at sea. All branches have tech jobs and all branches have the hardcore soldier stuff.(maybe not so much AF, but they have kool toys) Talk to recruiters and see what they have to offer.

Check out the different websites for information.

Do you want to make a career out of this? Join the reserves?

Air Force is more mind-oriented. You'll either take care of airplanes, fly them, deskjob, etc.
Marines is a air/sea/land service, very mobile. First in, first to shoot. These infantry guys have a dangerous job, but lots of "fun" shit.
    Navy. :mamoru:
Army is land, lots of interesting jobs to consider. From Infantry to Water Purifier. :o

Yeah, first in after Special Ops and then the airstrikes.

But seriously, from what you stated, you are a perfect canidate for the military. There are pros and cons to each of the services, but all of them are good. Just do as much research as possible.

Don't be an idiot, the Navy is extremely important in almost all military operations. There are also some very technical jobs in the US Navy, like hmm, operating/maintaining a nuclear reactor. Nice job on the ignorance though :ugh2:

Because its a no brainer. ARMY ROCKS!! hooah

  20. I dont know what MOS i want yet. I took home a list of them and i gotta pick. I took a sample MSVAB test and got a 76, the recruiter told me that with that score i could basically pick any MOS i wanted as long as it was open. He said average was 50, and of course i need 31 to get into army.

I think i picked army because of the fact that when i pick a MOS it sticks. Also i could join from anywhere between 2-6 years.

I havent looked at the marines yet though, so i cant rule them out yet. I just know that i want to stay on the ground.

Something to keep in mind, whatever the recruiter tells you, he is lying. All MOSes are open. Do not settle for an MOS that you don't want, they CAN and WILL get you the MOS that you tell them (as long as you are qualified for it). Don't let them push you into making a decision or signing anything, you can always leave and go back another day. If you have any questions about Intel MOSes feel free to message me.
