Im in the njrotc program at school and its great, it builds discipline, im an out of shape guy and im doing some excercise there as well.

I know the navy isnt for everyone, but today a po2 came to class and he was telling us about the navy and i really think i want to do it.

how high are mortality rights? i know theyre lower than like the army, but i want to go and do college at the same time. any opinions?

Mortality rates are low and you'll have plenty of opportunity to go to college while active duty Navy. just make sure you pick a good Combat Systems job.

yea what are the good jobs? a guy went in yesterday to talk to us he said engineers arent so lucky since they have to stay up to 5 hours after the ships are off to cool them down and stuff. I like mechanical engineering so that would suck, I also like computer engineering, but does your job have to be the same one as youre getting your degree in?

Also how can i find out if i can be stationed in the dominican republic? I'm DOminican and i love it there, it'd be great if i could be stationed there andmaking the money an e3 makes i could easily be a po3 within 6 months and live pretty damn good.

A good job is anything in combat systems or weapons department. You don't want to be in engineer or deck departments. Operations isn't too bad either, but I think they require a low IQ.

well this is true for most of the ex-cadets that have come back to school to tell us about their experiences in the navy after 3 years in rotc.

you'll get more out of the navy....when you decide to get out. Otherwise becoming an 0311 or some other "specialized weapons" job, will make you specialized in law enforcement or some other job related to that.
Why should I know....I was in the navy for 7 years, then the marine reserve for 1 then the army reserve for 3. On another note....if you want to compare services...the Air Force and Navy will offer you better training and job skills should you decide to get out.
