I was diagnosed with depression about five years ago. Still on the meds (Lexapro + Wellbutrin). I was wondering what the military's policy was on a history of mental illness. Would I be disqualified right off the bat?
The only info I found was here:
    https://forums.goarmy.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=955&start=0&tstart=0
which doesn't really seem to offer a clear answer. Basically, join after a year off medication?
Ant OTers know anything about this?

If you are depressed, you really, really, do not want to join the military.

I doubt they would let you in.

Talk to a recruiter though and double check.

  4. Yeah double check. Apparently they have a waiver for everything but gayness.

I know one or two people in my career field that are manic depressants......they are not allowed to go down range because they are not allowed to have a weapon......but can have OCONUS and CONUS assignments that weapons are not needed :dunno:

I agree :dunno: I dont want to work with them either....but that doesnt negate the fact that we have some manic depresants in my career field (Air Transportation)

I had a friend that joined the Army to go EOD. Well, he got about 4 weeks into basic, and had a break down. I guess he got fucked with fire guard somehow for a long period of time and he lost it. He ended up throwing his kevlar out the window (broke it), ripped his bed apart, and then fought a guy while someone went off the get his drill sergeant. Within 2 days, he was diagnosed bi-polar and he was sitting in his living room. The Army prescribed him meds, paid him for another 6 months, and told him not to come back.

If you have some issues and you can't keep them in check, then just stay away dude.
