I was all signed and about to ship a few years ago, when a sudden family death (ON my ship day. Bags packed at the door :sad2:) prompted me to bail and I found local work elsewhere, although everytime I go by the harbor, I wish I was working out there.

Now, procrastinator that I am, it has occurred to me that I will soon be too old to be eligible for enlistment in the USCG and that got me really thinking about if I could still make it work.

I'm okay with being the old man in house, and am fit enough to handle basic. Main block I see right now is I have a mortgage to pay and selling is not presently an option. (though it may be after a year or two in service)

Anybody else go in old, have unusual housing arrangements, suggest ratings that would keep me off the icebreakers, etc?
