Any input on this? Thinking about joining for 2 years. My goal is to join the Boston Fire Department, and after talking to a few of the higher ups with the BFD, they all told me that I really needed to serve in the military to seal the deal. Would pretty much guarantee a spot for me with the BFD, as apposed to having to score a 100 on the civil service test, and still possibly get looked over for a minority or veteran.

So I seriously thinking about joining the army, would does ot think about this?

In the Coast Guard you can blow up drug smugglers. I hear it's pretty sweet.

    Well, it goes like this.

Everyone in the Army is a grunt, everyone in the Marines is a rilfeman, and everyone in the Navy is a fireman.

Navy would be the way to go.

My buddy was going to do the 2 year deal until he read the fine print. Just a word of warning. I didn't ask him what was bad about it, but he was all for it until that..

Seriously, though - to get back to the Thread Starter's question: I joined the Army Reserves when I was 46. I went through the prior service version of basic at Fort Knox with Drill Sergeants that HATED working with prior service recruits. It was not fun, but it also wasn't the worst thing I've ever been through.

You'll do just fine. Go for it.

Go AF... they will pay for your civilian certifications. You can spew your load on airplanes, helos, buildings, cars, trucks, and ladies.

BTW I went through basic and techschool with a 30 year old. He was cool.

My neighbor is a fireman in the Airforce.. all the chicks dig him.. he is good with kids and he saves the day when there is a gas leak.

Anyhow.. He works 24 on and 24 off.. all they do is have BBQs and play basketball.

I have seen some join the service at 30.

    Nothing wrong with it.
