I joined an mma gym last year but it closed down after a few months. It was ok and was very close my house.
I have the option to join a gym now and it will cost $700 for the year. It has boxing, mma, BJJ, and muay thai. Im debating whether to join or not. Only cons I see are that it takes GAS and TIME to drive there. I will also be exhasted to do other work...
Pros, I guess it gets me fit and I know how to fight most people, but dont know if I will actually use my skills, and when I do I will most likely get into trouble.

    Help me make a decision.

you gotta join for the right reasons, what are your motivations now? do you plan on competing? are you doing it to get fit? for fun?

700/yr also sounds very good, what kind of gym is it? got a website?

theres the link, its a new gym. But basically the reason im joining is health and self defense.
My antidote to those reasons are that I can gain better health and fitness through working out and self defense will have me looking for a fight and getting in trouble.

Usually its the opposite. Guys who know how to fight and do it on a regular basis at the gym won't look for it in the street.

why is mma the new fitness fad.

just go running. it will get you in good shape, come in more handy for self defense, and its free.

If you couldn't find beneficial reasons to keep training in the few months you did odds are you aren't going to stick it out for the whole year.

start looking for the next fad. the mma bandwagon is full now.
maybe there's some room on the fast&furious band wagon, the next movie doesnt come out for another year and a half.

We really cant help you. If you're not THAT interested in the sport than it probably wouldnt be worth that much money. You can get healthy just by running around the block.

What other work do you have to do that you will be too tired? Most places have night classes.

gym looks really good, the instructors look legit, people with pro records etc. i would check out one class and see how it is.. who is teaching, what are they teaching, do they include sparring, is it more family oriented etc. etc. Once you take a trial class you'll figure out pretty quickly if it's something for you or not. I would pay for the whole year because it's gonna make you keep comming back, otherwise you'll loose motivation.

Everyone knows noone over 150lbs does MMA. :hsugh:

I dont see an issue with people using MMA for fitness occasionally youll roll or spar with someone out of shape or unskillful, diddums they are the ones that keep gyms open paying their fees and turning up for a few weeks.

Yup so the gym is good then, at least in terms of the instructors. I might try it for the year. 1200 is the normal price for a membership so 700$ is a steal.
And at least the skills I develop will help me for the rest of my life.

And ever since I stopped training from my last gym, ive still been interested in mma, so I guess I can rekindle the fire.

the last i heard is the same i ALWAYS here.. "you guys go so hard here.." sometimes you can atcually see the little tears forming.. like i rolled with some huge guy tonight im abotu 6 foot 3 myself.. but he was new to this.. so of course he was the kind of new guy who jumps and lunges at you over and over and over again... so he ate a couple elbows and shit in the scrambles.. after, he was like "i like the elbows".. like kind of acting as if they were done in an intentional way.. i was like thinking.. man when you go like that.. you are gonna get hit and make contact.. you cant go %500 and expect to come out not bruised.. his lunging lead to being choked on every instance.. even as i said EACH time.. go slower.. dont stick the neck out.. nice guy.. honestly.. i think that all new people are like that though.. either balls to the wall.. OR sit in the corner and nurse imaginary injuries, with more and more space between each class.. lol he (or she) never really stops coming though because they never do enough to get hurt.. lol now those balls to the wall guys are like a 50 50... some of them actually make it and stay.. the rest start to get hurt really bad and find out that this is not for them.. lol thats my overview of the people who i see come to our class..
