Joined Balleys. They told I'll get a trainer for the first few days then it is up to me if I want one of their packages, which I don't. Anyways looking toward getting muscle and leaner.

First thing I should do first?

honestly, step one is quit balleys and join a real gym like golds or powerhouse.

    LOL,
    Just read up and go.
There is no secret to the gym. If you put in your time, you will get benefits.

    My advice.
Bodies are built in the kitchen and made in the gym. Food makes up for 70% of what you will gain.
    Avoid the personal trainers.
Ask your questions here and you will get the answers instead of wasting cash on idiots.

Eat big, sleep big, lift big and you will get big.
    Done.

focus on compound barbell movements. dumbbells are okay for accessory exercises. stay away from machines.

If you're doing work, the environment is irrelevant

read the stickies and archives, look for a routine, get your diet in check, and watch the noob gains roll in these next few months.

I agree, I'm one of the largest dudes at my gym and that's sad. If anything I get a good chuckle a lot out of what i see the trainers have people do.

If you get one of their guys free for a few sessions why not see what he has to say and report back here. I'm sure someone will critique his plans for you and point you in the right direction.

    ^^ Werd.

If those couple sessions are free, you might as well take them.

Pointless shunning his information if you don't know any better yourself.

If anything they might help explain things to you and show you the correct form for exercises.. hopefully!

I'm one of the strongest guys at the school gym and one of the smallest at the gym at home.

It's weird that I make my best gains at home. There's definitely that x factor of being around guys that are stronger than you that makes you work harder, and work less when you're around people weaker.

Even though it's all about vanity at our home gym and the majority of men are on roids it's still motivating in a weird way.

its true. having a testosterone filled environment is eighty billion times better than a non testosterone filled environment. ditch the balleys, join a testosterone filled gym.

Thanks for your replies. I will be sure to reply back with the trainer's tip. I didn't have plans to pay for a trainer anyways.

It's sure going to be embarrassing lifting those things the first month. :o

training partner + the spot having the necessary equipment is what matters in a commercial gym, the other dudes walking around curling and doing 10 sets of pulldowns aren't exactly motivating
