So I finally joined American Kickboxing Academy this week after thinking about it for a while. Went in today and got my ass kindly handed to me.:o I had a lot of fun though. This should be really cool.
Is anyone else on here a member?

Yeah it gets muggy in there and it smells like bull nuts but I like the simplicity too. Basically all there is in that place are things to hit. Cool in my book.:wiggle:

Word. I didn't even do a "try it once for free" thing for fear of being scared off. I just went in, and signed up for a year.
So far it's awesome. I got kicked in the head yesterday.

Yeah. The last 15-20 min of each lesson is sparring. The dude I was up against had a good 6" on me and clearly has been doing this for a while. Kinda dick of him to kick my dome but :dunno: he apologized kinda.

Yeah I know right. They call it "light sparring." Really fun, though.

good for you man, thats a pretty damn good place to train at.
Now get private lessons from cung with MT and ask kosfag to help you with takedowns, and swick to help you with.....explosiveness.

I'm all for getting knocked around but this was the second class I've ever taken and my first time sparring. I expected a bit of "how-to" on the blocking first, but I'm thriving on it. Each time I take a hit it just makes me more angry and more motivated.

I really dont like people who get mad when they get hit during sparring. It's a sport, not a schoolyard.
and its not the students job to teach you how to block a high kick, the instructor probably should have given you a run through first to make sure you were ready.

Usually when new people show up i hate doing those light sparring drills with them because they traditionally never try and hit you and get all flustered when they get hit.
Nest thing to do is make them punch you in the face or intentionally not defend to get them into the habit of punching at my face and not my gloves and not a foot ahead of me.

It makes you angry to get hit in sparring, wtf. I hate douche bags that get mad when sparring and then swing for the fences. Actually I like them b/c 99.
9% of the time they just throw wild haymakers and are easy to light up with some straight punches and leg kicks. I get a good laugh when he get even more angry...

It's not your sparring partners responsibility to show you anything, but IT is your job to ask if you have questions as I'm sure they guys you are sparring would more than gladly help you. But YOU have to ask.
