Current Situation: I am about 6months from graduating with my B.S. in Computer Science with a concentration in Information Systems.

I have been working for the state of VA for just over a year now at a major public state university.

My current title is Information Technology Specialist II. I make about $19.00 an hour, which equates to close to $40,000 a year at 40 hours a week, though I currently am supposed to work only ~30hours a week, as I am only part-time night.

My immediate manager has offered me a full-time day salary position at low-to-mid $40k. By taking this offer I take on more responsibilites and have to delay my grad date by possibly an additional 6months. I do gain benefits from the offer as it is a full-time state job.

So my question is... should I try to haggle to earn a higher salary or what?

don't take the position for at least 50k. Finish your school and do well in it. You don't need to work at the moment, it is much more important that you do well in school.

Yeah, graduate first mate. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was leaving for a job just before finishing my course.

    Think about your future!

So you are working part time now and making $30k a year while going to school? Why take a promotion that would be a nearly lateral move, with only the benefits as a bonus.

Get your schooling finish and take the job (or a better one later) at no less than $47-50k.
