Have any of you BJJ guys rolled with a Sambo guy? What differences, if any, did you notice in the other guys game?

I got the chance to roll with an 8 year Sambo veteran last night and he was pretty good. I noticed he went for immediate submissions instead of positioning himself better first. Also, he was really lacking in guard breaking technique but that was probably just him sucking at life.

I never have, but I heard they go for lots of leg locks, is this true?

chokes arent allowed. so i guess that leaves them going for the legs or arms more often.

Yea, he went for one on me... It was probably my stupidity in the end that let him have it and the fact that I had meniscus surgery on my knee a month and a half ago but they do have some nice leg locks. I have a Sambo Leg Lock DVD and it's pretty bad ass. For an MMA guy like you, it is definitely worth learning, especially for going up against good guard players. Just my opinion, I'm no expert.

Yea, that's weird. Sometimes I hear that chokes arent allowed and sometimes I hear that they are.
