What do plan on doing with this cherokee? Dedicated offroader, weekend 4 wheeling, or a shiny city commuter?

Update front end with junkyard swap or something.

Black out / body colour the chrome window trim.

Bushwacker cut out fender flares to open up the fenders.

    Small lift

    33x12.50's.

    Rims of your choice.

Then after more saving, gears and lockers.

Why waste money on cosmetics for a wheeler if you're on a budget?

What year is it, how many miles, how is it running?

Spending money on a lift, tires, off road gear etc will be a waste if your engine is leaking oil, making shit power, and ready to strand you on a trail.

Evaluate your powertrain first... if its acceptable get a lift and tires, if it needs work, go to the engine/trans first, and build accordingly; meaning plan for additional upgrades.

Engine and drivetrain are bulletproof (knock on wood lol)... its an 89 but had an new engine put in and transmission/transfer case rebuild. plus i've done fuel pump/starter/alternator ect ect.

How much lift do you think i'll need to fit 33's?

and as for cosmetics i'd much rather do more important things then worry about appearance first of all, those can come later. I think i'm lacking in some good recovery points so those would come first before anything.

go with rubicon express lift if you want or you could go with long arms. Put gears in it probally 4.56 if you want to run 33's. Find out what kind of axles you have blah blah blah

Seemed like he wants it to look good too. Those aren't the rims that came on XJ's with that grill. Figured he'd want to finish the job.

Rubicon Express 3.5" lift. 31" M/T tires. Ford 8.8 or XJ Dana 44 with locker. Rocker guards and wheel it. Then later you can cut the fenders for 32's and regear.

does your new engine have the 91+ H.O. head and EFI setup? Those would be a good power upgrade over your renix setup.

The lift is like $800 with shocks and full leaf packs from Rubicon Express. You could do it even cheaper (like $400) if you choose and add-a-leaf, but since it's so old I would go with full leafs. 4 or 5 31" tires for between $400-$1000 depending if you buy new wheels also. You can mount 31's on your stock wheels but at full lock they will rub the control arms because they don't have enough backspacing. Lots of people do it, it's not that bad. Rocker guards are like $300. And the Dana 35 will hold 31's if not locked. Or you can find a Dana 44 from a XJ if your worried. So depending on how much and where you want to spend it you can easily do it for less than 3 grand. Hope that helps.

Absolutely you can build an XJ with 3.5" lift, 31's and a new rear axle for $3000. Probably manage to lock front/rear with something cheap like an aussie for that as well.

My 93 XJ almost meets those specs and I have less than that in it .. including the Jeep. Budget lift (ZJ V8 springs and pucks in the front, custom built pack in the rear), aussie locked front and rear, 31" Goodyear MTR's and wheels from a Rubicon. My only weakness is the rear Chrysler 8.25 but it's a heck of a lot better than a D35. I wheel it and it tackles just about everything I throw at it.

I put in a 3 inch procomp lift... sits a little uneven (higher in the front) so i'm gonna add a leaf in the back to level it out.

gonna look into bushwacker flares or just trimming the fenders altogether to fit 33's.

Including the purchase price of my Jeep, I only have $3500 into it, and it cost $1000. With that, I have put a RE 3.5" lift, 31" Procomp Xterrains on Rock Crawler wheels, RE HD track bar, and C4x4 Tow hooks. It works awesomely for what I need. I have stock D30 front, and D35 rear also.
