    our jimmy's falling apart, so i'm gonna have to buy a new tow rig. i'd only be towing a 17ft boat, so a v6 cherokee should have enough power. the problem is i can only afford a beat up high milage cherokee because i'll only have about 2-3 grand the spend, if that. how reliable would a higher mileage jeep be? i just need it to tow a boat about 20 miles, do some winter driving, and a little offroading, can i rely on an early 90's cherokee to do this?

    V6 = bad I6=good
    An early 90's would be fine just make sure its a 4.0L HO
    The fuel injected 4 bangers will last a long time but you can't tow with them. Our 85 Carbed 4 banger has 203,312 miles on it :eek3:

    Like I said make sure its a 4.0L HO. Thats the only thing I can think of. 2 doors are rare, and 5 speeds are rare a 2 door 5 speed is really rare, and you could probly sell it to one of us :naughty:
    Other than that just look at all the other normal stuff you look at when buying a car. Good luck :bigthumb:

    if you had 2-3 grand to spend for a tow rig, id honestly reccomend a fullsize blazer over a cherokee... 3 grand can land you a pretty decent one

    i'm looking for a 4 door anyway, i got 2-doors up the ass with my grand am, celica, and hopefully a camaro by years end. i need something i can actually fit some people in :o

    i'm still unsure if i want a 5 speed or not. it would suck for towing and traffic, but fun for offroading so i dont know :dunno:

    Or a fullsize jeep. But then you have to worry about rust.
    Look on www.naxja.org for Cherokee information and www.ifsja.org for fullsize jeep info.

    its not gonna be doing alot of towing, just 20 freeway miles to the lake, so i'm really not worried about that. i'd rather have something clean and somewhat economic.

    thanks for the advice :cool:

    Get a 91+ that has the HO

    Make sure it doesn't have a Dana 35 rear axle

    XJ is great for a towing a boat.. Had a 91.. I echo everyone else, make sure it's only a 4.0L HO, and not the I4..
