Jeep Crew: Help me buy a Jeep Cherokee

Discussion in 'OT Driven' started by ZEKEthePLUMBER, Mar 22, 2007.

  1. I'm looking for a vehicle that I can take off-road down in Mexico to some of the more remote surf breaks and also be able to haul my dog around to our herding competitions.

What is the best year range for the Jeep Cherokee? What are things to look out for? What are known issues?

What is a good off-road wheel / tire combo?

    Thanks

EDIT cause i cant read...97 or a 99 cherokee FTW..

a 31" tire would be the best bet...its big enough that you can get some grip off road, but its also not too big that youll have the annoying tire hum from big tires..

look at a like a pro comp mud terrain tire...

He said Cherokee, not Grand Cherokee. :hsugh:
Personally I prefer 97+ but it depends on your budget really.

You want 97+ however the 99 year is widely considered as the BEST year

    HP30 front.
    31 spline 8.25 rear
    distributor
    good aw4 year
    231 is solid

Your Pathfinder is ugly as hell and a majority of OT already stated as such, therefore :gtfo:

Yeah, I saw that. I opted to just buy the 4.0 V6 right now. I have no need for the 5.6L V8.

Be sure to get the I6 and not the 4cyl.
If you're leaking oil, it's probably the rear main. 'Easy,' to replace, but a bitch to get to.

you can take this to the bank bro. /thread now. Invest in a good arb front bumper or the like and a warn 8-9k winch. BFG tires all the way, KO's or muds.

I had a 92' for quite a few years. Id go with a 3-5" lift.. 31 inch tires. Fun off-road yet still driveable on the highway. I dont have a suggestion for which year to look for.

Same engine. Mine comes with 270hp/291tq. Yours should be somewhere close to that depending on intake/exhaust/ECU tuning from factory, etc.

    265. I'd like to do a few mods just to get my fuel consumption a little better. But that's pointless if I'm just going to hit the redlights and run 80-100mph a few times a month.
