I am looking to get a used jeep with under 30k miles. The Cherokee is a slightly better price, but is there a reason to go with the grand? Thanks.

the GC is a lot more plush, but if you plan on doing a lift or serious offroading the cherokee is prolly a better choice

A ZJ is majorly expensive to wheel. You need to buy lots of protection before you can even begin to wheel it. It's a great performer off road, with plenty of power, but it's simply not as cheap as lifting a cherokee. Both unibody designs.. which makes it hella expensive. A lift for my grand is 1500 bucks, plus tires/rims as well as rocker/bumper protection. Not a cheap endeavor!

Why isn't this true? XJs are a better choice for offroading for a few reasons. This doesn't mean I wouldn't pick the grand though if it was my choice.

    1. tons more options for aftermarket parts. WJs have few aftermarket parts choices, ZJs are a little better.
    2. A little easier to fit larger tires. Not much but it is still easier.
    3. slightly smaller and lighter vehicle
    4. cheaper to fix and repair if damaged (kinda goes along with the more aftermarket parts options)
    5. can get a manual if you want, not in a grand

If it was my choice it would go in this order, not just based on offroad ability, but also engine choices, and looks.

    WJ>XJ>ZJ

sure you can. Only made them for one year, and they are hard to find, but you certainly can. Either 93 or 94, you could get a 5 speed behind your 4.0

Well I just did an auto trader search and did "any distance" for grand cherokees with manuals, and only one page of results showed up. Half of the were WJs and many of the ZJs were not 93 or 94s. In fact there was only one 93 and one 94 listed. So either they are as rare as a shelby GT500 or they never did make them. :) Even if they did make them they are so rare you will not be able to get one, and thats if you want a ZJ anyway. There are no manuals for sure in the WJ.

go ask at www.jeepsunlimited.com . They made them. Nuff said.

Correct about WJ's though. As far as I know, they never made a manual.

I have over 2000 posts on JU, over 1000 in the tech forums, and I did do a search there before I posted. It came up with nothing.

My point was though that even if they did make them they are too rare to even try to expect to get one. When you do a nationwide search on autotrader.com and it comes up with only two possible vehicles then its not too likely you will find one.

    1) doesn't matter how many posts you have. That doesn't show your level of knowledge at all. It only shows how much time you spend there.

    2) I guarentee they made them. I made a post on JU about it.

Its been so long since I've been there that I didn't know they changed the site! May have to start reading that board again.

Post #s do show you a general idea of knowledge. It doesn't prove your knowlege, but you know sombody doesn't have a 1000 posts on a vehicle forum and not know anything about that type of vehicle so it gives you a general idea, but I am not about to argue about that. Anyways I have never said that they didnt ever make them. So I won't argue about that, they easily could have made them but it doesn't really matter much at all to the topic this post was about.

anyway, what have you got? I was going to sell mine and build something new, but I can't bring myself to it. I've put way too much time in this one to let it go.
