and if u have used it extensivly, what are ur comments on it when it gets difficult?

in my opinion cgi is dead, most people only use php/asp(.net)/jsp/servlets for online developing

as for php i notice that not a lot of big companies use them
and if you take a look at number of jobs online, php is nowhere to be seen?

    Code:
    Number of jobs

                monster.com hotjobs.com dice.com %

    Java 2739 1000 1957 27.82%
    C++              2103          1000       1534     22.65%
    Visual Basic 2070 969 1127 20.35%
    Perl 955 517 577 10.01%
    Javascript 925 455 498 9.17%
    C# 290 235 183 3.46%
    Ada 384 175 57 3.01%
    Fortran 124 68 48 1.17%
    Scheme 39 138 46 1.09%
    Python 58 43 33 0.65%
    Smalltalk 42 27 32 0.49%
    Lisp 12 4 9 0.12%

                     9741 4631 6101

as far as complexity concern, php is easier to do simple stuff, like upload scripts and online galleries but when the projects get more complex, jsp/servlets is prolly a better choice

but once again it's only my opinion
so maybe someone who is more knowledgeable in this can correct me or agree with me ;)

I love using JSPs and Servlets. It's nice to separate the logic from the presentation. I use these two everyday at work. Feel free to ask questions.

Eh, I don't think CGI is dead. I don't think JSP/Servlets will completely replace CGI/PHP. PHP is great for doing alot of stuff. On the other hand JSP/Servlets definitely have their advantages and have their use. It's just not going to take over the market or anything extreme like that.

tkx! im sure ill get some questions while doing assignments.

im acctually starting to like java more then c++. i just like the idea that i can write a proggie that in on my home linux box, and work on it on my 2000 box at school, without worried about cross-compiling.

or i could just use my home 2000 box, but then that would make sence! duh!
