    .. ROUND :eek4:

It has been found that a Warrant Officer (Age 52)sent to Samawa, Iraqi as part of the 9th support group, to support the rebuilding efforts, lost a single 9mm hand gun round and stole another round from a magazine in the armory to make the numbers match.

The Japanese Ground Self Defence Force Central Command has decided to suspend the solider from duty for a 5 days.
It is the first time that disciplinary action has been taken in Iraqi since the JSDF was deployed in 2004.

According to sources, the Warrant Officer noticed that he had lost a round when he entered the base and was required to turn in his weapons, ammo and empty brass at the gate of the base after returning from target practice.
He smoothed things over for the time being, then stole a live round from a magazine belonging to a different solider in the armory when he was cleaning his weapon.

On the afternoon of the same day, a different solider noticed that a round was missing and reported it to his superior.
A 20 hour search of the base resulted in a round being found near the gate. The markings on the case showed that the round had been issued to the Warrant Officer. The Warrant Officer admitted to stealing the round.

The JGSDF Central Command has decided to take disciplinary action against the gate guard and 2 officers for not having visually confirmed the ammo being returned, in addition to suspending the solider from duty for a 5 days.

The 9th support group will return to Japan next month.
The Warrant Officer will be arrested by MPs and tried under military law for theft.

I took a class from a guy last month that trains some of their SF/SWAT guys. He was telling us that it's a felony to possess a single round of ammo. When they get done shooting, every round and case needs to be accounted for or no ones leaves! He was also saying he had a team over here in the states..and took them into Walmart and had them each buy a box of ammo. They couldn't fucking believe you could walk into a department store and get a box of ammo  Be lucky you have the rights you do.

because in a society that looks down upon such instruments of death, for a lack of better words, why make an exception for one person? got to enforce the rules to the letter of the law if they want people to actually respect them.

This is perhaps ironic as prior to 1945 Japan had a very strong warrior ethic as you all know.

Perhaps like Germany, Japan has been pacified/pussified to a large degree.

Still... from where I come from the amount of ammo wasted (and secreted!) during military training exercises is astounding. Losing 1,000 rounds of 5.56 is not unusual.

perhaps you should say "perhaps" again.

i know before WWII japan was a warrior nation, still with strong ties to the bushido code even in the 20th century.

the japanese are an odd people, though. odd, but very anal retentive, especially about laws.
