For whomever has done a tour in Japan, where were you stationed? How did you like it? Not so much interested in Okinawa, but more so the mainland bases.

I've been in yokosuka and misawa for a grand total of 7 years all good in my book...though if you're navy and e4 and below you get pretty borked

I am on Okinawa. Only have 5 months left on my 2 year tour.

I don't know much about mainland other than 3rd party info.

Not a bad gig at all. Contractors over here make decent money and Japan is pretty nice.

I was stationed in Atsugi for nearly five years. I had a great time over there.

Do you have any specific questions?

(NAF Atsugi is about forty-five minutes outside Tokyo)

How big a Base is NAF Atsugi? Are the facilities on Base pretty nice? How populated is it city and surrounding area? I imagine being so close to Tokyo that it's still a very large town/city? Are there lots of places to eat and hang out at? Was it easy for you to meet, communicate, and hang out with the locals? Is it easy to find a place to live off Base? How easy is it to find a cheap beater or lease something cheap? Is there a lot of construction going on at the Base? How do the Japanese in the area act and feel toward the personnel/Americans stationed there? I've heard there are tensions in Okinawa, hence the move toward Guam. I've never really heard of any problems on the mainland.

i was on camp zama. japan kicked major ass. pretty laid back, food was great. you can travel to australia, new zealand, china, thailand, all pretty quickly. japan can be pretty expensive, but with MWR you can get cheap tour stuff, and the snowboarding is awesome.
