ok, i bought my first bike in the summer w/helmet, but since it was nice and warm out when i went riding i didn't give a 2nd thought to getting a jacket yet. but now that it's beginning to get to be fall, it's getting cooler out plus i think i'm compentent enough to start going out on the highway little by little.

    so

where do you guys go for good deals on jackets? doesn't need to be leather, just want something to have that looks decent and will save some rash (just in case.....)

Try and go into a brick & mortar store to try out the jackets you're interested in. Make note of how each manufacturer fits you. Alpinestars size XX will fit different from a Teknic size XX.

Check out kneedraggers.com, very big selection of stuff.

Yeah, and if money is a problem they've always got something cheap that'll work good. In their closeouts section they have a decent Joe Rocket jacket on sale that would be perfect.
