So I've been wanting a small revolver for a while. Really like the j frames. The question is should I buy one rated for .38 spl +p, or save up for one that can shoot .357 as well?

Won't be a ccw... just buying it for my own personal amusement, and to have something smaller than my P99c. I know I won't shoot much .357 out of it, but I feel like I should leave myself the option.

  2. Are you talking about the scandium one?

    then get the 357.

Since it won't be a CCW, get an external hammer and get a heavier pistol.

funk that noise, if you want a round gun and aren't intending on using it for CCW, get a Smith and Wesson 625jm.

J Frames are not a fun range gun, unless all you want to do is shoot from 5-7 yards away.

A J Frame isn't fun to shoot in any caliber.

I have a S&W 642 that I HATE firing. The trigger pull requires that I flex my fingers, and it's not all that accurate. If you're not carrying it, I see no point in EVER shooting it or wanting one.

Truth, rent or borrow a jframe and put a few .38 spl rounds through it and put a few .357 through it before you decide you even want one let alone want one in .357 for $200 more.

I think the 642 is a fantastic carry gun but it isn't a fun range toy for me. The recoil isn't terrible with powder puff wadcutters and its easier to be accurate with it when you get a feel for how to stage the trigger but thats just getting to shootable, not fun.

you'd be stupid if you got it in .357 thinking you'll "just shoot 38's"

get it in .38 if you're gonna get one.

    model 642

:werd: +P's through a S&W 642 are fucking  I shot a buddy's 642 with +P and the range officer made a comment when I got done shooting 50 rounds. He asked how my wrist felt, he knew just from the sound that I was firing +P
