I'm going to be doing a lot of papers and shit for college. I already got Office 2004 for the Mac. Should I stick with it or switch to iWork? Are there any advantages or disadvantages of it? Cost isn't a factor.

Why not install it and give it a shot. I love it much more then MS Office 2004. 2004 just feels so crappy.

I was playing around with Pages and it seems pretty simple to use (compared to Office 2007). But when you're in a hurry, one will probably forget to export the document to .doc, .xls, or .ppt if you need it to be read by Office.

Can you set it to save in .doc, .xls or .ppt by default?

I too have been using this, but I find the startup time is painfully slow. After the app is up it's ok.

I just used MS Office when I took notes in my lectures because I can also record the audios. :dunno:

I used MS Word more often but when I do presentations, I use Apple Keynote.

This past year I used MS Office and I like its note layout function. I tried recording audio at one point but it locked up. The program itself runs really slow since its a PPC app using rosetta. I think I am going to try using Pages this semester. As for audio I just launch Quicktime and record through that. Works great.

    and I'm downloading iLife.

i want to try that online photo album thing before my .mac trial runs out. :noes:

though it'll probably be a pain exporting photos from aperture to iphoto to do it. :o

no doubt iwork will run 10x faster bc its optimized for intels.
i think im gonna hold off and see about how office 08 is before buying either.
office 2008 vs iwork 08 will be the real competition

Actually, Numbers is much slower on large calculation-intensive spreadsheets than Excel, either in VM Ware or in Rosetta. So I imagine Office '08 is going to stomp on it. Because of Apple's shitty educational support, Office will actually be cheaper than iWork for me anyway. $15 compared to $40.
